Home / How to stay true to yourself even when you grew up without a supportive family backing
Reflect on moments when your inner voice was silenced or ignored.
What situations made it difficult to stay true to yourself?
Exploring these questions can help you uncover hidden conflicts and begin your journey toward self-awareness.
There is a quiet, inner voice within you that doesn’t always get a place. It appears for moments – precisely when you are about to give up again, when you agreed. Shrank. Pleased. Again, you were silent so as not to disappoint.
That voice doesn’t want you to do it on purpose. It reminds you that reconnecting is possible, and it asks that you come back to be with him – to be with you.
Loyalty to yourself doesn’t start with a decision – it starts with agreeing to meet the place where you gave it up.
In other words, to return to yourself, you must first identify where you were abandoned.
Sometimes this abandonment did not begin in the marital system or at work,
but in the earliest connection in your life – the connection with your mother.
The baby you were was born with built-in loyalty: your survival depends on your mother.
Her warmth is the warmth of life.
Her gaze is your first reflection.
But what happens when Mom isn’t good? When she is absent, hurtful, judgmental, demanding, or distant? –
What happens is that it doesn’t negate loyalty – it just distorts it.
The inner child within you continues to believe that if you adapt yourself, give up, please, be silent – maybe then you will be loved, maybe you will finally receive a soft look, approval, a smile.
Even today, as a grown woman, you may continue to act out of that same unquestioning loyalty.
Not because you’re stupid. Not because you are weak – but because that is what you learned to survive.
Pleasing is often evidence of an old love that you tried to earn at your own expense. It doesn’t mean you don’t have a choice – but it does mean your choice has been conditioned.
Whoever has experienced harmful attachment will find it very difficult to identify their voice,
because all her life she has been taught that an inner voice equals risk.
It’s time to separate:
Between the wound and identity
Between survival and choice
Between the girl and the woman you are today.
Being true to yourself is not about cutting ties, not about rebelling, not about “setting boundaries.” It’s not a slogan. It is a gentle, internal, quiet, almost invisible movement.
It’s tLook at the girl you were and say to her, “I see you,” and look at the woman you are going to be and say to her, look at the girl you were and say to her: “I see you” and look at the woman you are going to be and say to her: “I’m coming.”
To help you refine this in your body, here is a simple and powerful constellation exercise.
A short, safe exercise that can be done alone, in any quiet place.
It is based on the constellation field and allows a gentle intergenerational movement within yourself.
Three sheets of paper
A place where you can stand and move a little
A few minutes to be present with yourself.
The first page represents the girl you were (past)
The second page represents you today (present)
The third page represents the old and wise woman you will be (future)
Place the pages in a column:
Between the first and second page: one step
Between the second and third page: three steps
Stand on the middle page – you of the present.
Turn back and look at the page that represents the girl.
Look at her with an open heart and say:
“I see you.
I see how hard you tried to be loved.
I understand why you did it.
You no longer have to disappear to belong.”
Stay there for a moment. Breathe. Allow her to be.
Turn forward.
Take three steps and stand on the third page – representing the wise woman you will be.
Look from the future to the past.
See the girl and the woman of today.
Say to them:
“Here in the future, I am safe.
I deserve love.
I don’t have to apologize or change to get a place.
I choose a full life, and I go with me to the end.”
Stay there for a few breaths.
If you were true to yourself now, what would you stop doing immediately?
And what would you allow yourself, even if no one understands?
Sometimes the way back to yourself passes through ancient pain.
But when you agree to meet him, you stop being the girl who runs your life and become the woman you are. Without approval. Without proof. Without pleasing.
If the exercise met you, write to me.
If something inside you trembled – I’m here.
