ISP – Integrative Somatic Psychology

ISP – Integrative Somatic Psychology

Trauma Therapy

Does your body already know what you haven’t been able to put into words yet?

Do you find yourselves reacting intensely and then disconnecting?,
Freezing in the face of your partner’s pain or absorbing it without the ability to contain it?
Do you feel like you understand everything, but it doesn’t sink in?

In relationships, especially when there is no family support in the background, emotional pain does not go away on its own.
It accumulates in the body, in the cells, in the reactions, and sometimes also in the distance that has opened up between you, without you noticing.

What is the ISP – Integrative Somatic Psychology Method?

The ISP (Integrative Somatic Psychology) method was developed by clinical psychologist Dr. Raja Selvam, based on the understanding that in order to heal emotionally – we must expand the body’s ability to bear emotions.

Unlike treatment methods that seek to release or relax, ISP offers a different direction: to stay, to deepen, to expand the presence.
To experience the emotion in the body – without being drawn into it and without running away from it.
It is a delicate and powerful process, gradual and especially deep when done as a couple.

What does ISP look like in couples therapy in my clinic?

Couples therapy in ISP focuses on what happens between and within your bodies.
The connection is examined in its rawest moments: when the gaze slips, when the voice shrinks, when the heart beats strongly.
These are the moments when it becomes clear whether emotions really have a place or just an attempt to control them.

In the process, you will learn:

  • To be gently with what hurts without flooding or disconnecting.

  • To stay connected – even when one of you shrinks or moves away.

  • To support each other – from presence, not from “fixing.”

When we learn to feel together – the burden can ease and the distance can close.

The three pillars of ISP – in my clinic:

1. Expanding emotional-physical tolerance:

We will learn to identify the places of pain and from there work to move through them in the body. Expanding the ability to contain a range of emotions in the body allows the brain to process them better.

2. Couple somatic presence:

Practice of “being with” – even when the body of your partner speaks distress. Without panicking and without disappearing.

3. Healing through mutual witnessing:

The ability to witness what is happening in the body of the other is one of the deepest forms of intimacy in a relationship.

Who is it suitable for?

  • For those who feel overwhelmed or disconnected.

  • For those who feel that something is stuck in the body.

  • For those who are dealing with trauma and post-trauma and are seeking help in coping.

  • For those looking for emotional therapy using a research-based method.

When should you seek couples therapy that incorporates ISP?

  • When conflicts between you cause you to feel turmoil within the body.

  • When you feel disconnected from your body.

  • When the marital situation between you has physical symptoms that make your daily life difficult.

  • When there are significant gaps between you, for example – one of you feels “too much”, and the other “doesn’t feel anything”.

How will you know the process is working?

  • Your body remains regulated even in a heated conversation.

  • You are less reactive and more present.

  • A new language of connection is created not only verbally, but also in breath, in gaze, in silence.

  • Closeness returns because you have learned to be together with what is.

If you are asking for another way – a way to feel together what has not been given space – you are welcome to meet with me.
