effort.<br data-start=\"269\" data-end=\"272\" \/>Two good, sensitive people, committed to the relationship, and yet exhausted. They talk, work on themselves, try again and again to fix things \u2013 and yet something gets stuck.<\/p><p data-start=\"396\" data-end=\"528\">And at this point, it becomes clear: the difficulty does not stem from a lack of love or desire. and life seems to recreate itself.<\/p><p data-start=\"902\" data-end=\"1098\">But then, when we listen inward &#8211; through practices like body awareness, guided imagery, or somatic therapy &#8211; something else is revealed:<br data-start=\"1003\" data-end=\"1006\" \/><strong data-start=\"1006\" data-end=\"1024\">Pain that is not personal\u00a0can be recognized, and acknowledgment can open a path toward healing, inspiring hope in the audience<\/strong>.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"262\" data-end=\"302\">It didn&#8217;t start with you &#8211; but you carry it.<\/h3><p data-start=\"304\" data-end=\"514\">Author and therapist Mark Wolynn, a leader in intergenerational trauma, calls it &#8216;unspoken family memory,&#8217; emphasizing how understanding these stories can foster connection and validation. In the field of intergenerational trauma, the author of the book It Didn\u2019t Start with Youth Youauthor of the book <em data-start=\"378\" data-end=\"404\">It Didn\u2019t Start with You<\/em>, calls it <strong><em data-start=\"415\" data-end=\"441\">&#8220;unspoken family memory&#8221;<\/em>.<\/strong><br data-start=\"442\" data-end=\"445\" \/>This is not a metaphor. It is knowledge encoded in tissues, in the nervous system, in unspoken words.<\/p><p data-start=\"516\" data-end=\"652\">Sometimes it&#8217;s a grandmother who lost a child, and the granddaughter carries within her a deep sadness that has no name.<br data-start=\"582\" data-end=\"585\" \/>Sometimes it&#8217;s a father who lives with unspoken shame, and his son is ashamed without knowing why.<\/p><p data-start=\"654\" data-end=\"764\">The story may not have been told &#8211; but the body remembers.<br data-start=\"690\" data-end=\"693\" \/>The eyes recognize pain that is not their own.<br data-start=\"720\" data-end=\"723\" \/>The relationship responds to a dynamic that was not born in it.<\/p><p data-start=\"766\" data-end=\"822\">This is <strong data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"788\">intergenerational transfer<\/strong> &#8211; not through genes, but through belonging.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1598\">How do you identify it, especially when facing difficult emotions or memories that feel overwhelming or confusing?<\/h3><ul data-start=\"1600\" data-end=\"1760\"><li data-start=\"1600\" data-end=\"1642\"><p data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"1642\">When the emotional response does not match the situation.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1643\" data-end=\"1695\"><p data-start=\"1645\" data-end=\"1695\">When you feel like you are fighting something ancient, bigger than you.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1760\"><p data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1760\">When there is a pattern that repeats itself over and over without explanation: abandonment, betrayal, unexplained fear.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1762\" data-end=\"1983\">Wolynn offers an emotional mapping called <em data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"1801\">core language<\/em> &#8211; a way to translate physical sensations, automatic sentences, and recurring images into a deeper family story.<br data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1891\" \/>This is not a psychological excavation &#8211; it is a systemic listening to what is passed down from generation to generation, until someone is willing to stop and look.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"1990\" data-end=\"2048\">When a story is allowed to be told, it stops being written through the body<\/h3><p data-start=\"2050\" data-end=\"2150\">What is common to many of the stories I accompany is the moment when something calms down &#8211;<br data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2114\" \/>not because they understood, but because <strong data-start=\"2139\" data-end=\"2149\">they recognized<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"2152\" data-end=\"2241\">Someone said, &#8220;I see you.&#8221;<br data-start=\"2179\" data-end=\"2182\" \/>Someone understood: &#8220;This is not mine.&#8221;<br data-start=\"2207\" data-end=\"2210\" \/>And something inside no longer needs to fight.<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"2243\" data-end=\"2353\"><p data-start=\"2245\" data-end=\"2353\">&#8220;Unresolved trauma seeks someone to carry it,<br data-start=\"2288\" data-end=\"2291\" \/>until someone is willing to return it to its source. It returns it to its place.<\/p><p data-start=\"2459\" data-end=\"2595\">We all belong.<br data-start=\"2472\" data-end=\"2475\" \/>But we were not meant to identify with the pain of those who came before us, which can often manifest as unresolved issues in our current relationships, making this distinction crucial for healing and connection.<br data-start=\"2522\" data-end=\"2525\" \/>We were not meant to pay an emotional debt.<br data-start=\"2549\" data-end=\"2552\" \/>We were not meant to cancel our lives in the name of a story that is not ours.<\/p><p data-start=\"2597\" data-end=\"2656\">This distinction &#8211; between belonging and identification &#8211; is the moment when relief and hope can emerge, offering comfort and clarity.<\/p><p data-start=\"2658\" data-end=\"2725\">We say thank you to the past.<br data-start=\"2681\" data-end=\"2684\" \/>And let it rest.<br data-start=\"2700\" data-end=\"2703\" \/>And from there, turn to life.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"2732\" data-end=\"2776\">Order before love: when love doesn&#8217;t know where to flow<\/h3><p data-start=\"2778\" data-end=\"2860\">The constellation is not only about relieving pain but also about restoring movement.<br data-start=\"2829\" data-end=\"2832\" \/>And movement is possible when there is <strong data-start=\"2852\" data-end=\"2859\">order, giving you a sense of stability and control in your relationships<\/strong>.<\/p><ul data-start=\"2862\" data-end=\"3086\"><li data-start=\"2862\" data-end=\"2988\"><p data-start=\"2864\" data-end=\"2988\">Principle of <strong data-start=\"2870\" data-end=\"2881\">priority<\/strong>: whoever came first &#8211; also preceded in their place.<br data-start=\"2913\" data-end=\"2916\" \/>The grandparents before the parents, the parents before the children.<br data-start=\"2956\" data-end=\"2959\" \/>The ex-spouse before the new partner.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"2990\" data-end=\"3086\"><p data-start=\"2992\" data-end=\"3086\">The principle of <strong data-start=\"2998\" data-end=\"3010\">hierarchy<\/strong>: What is big &#8211; gives. What is small &#8211; receives.<br data-start=\"3044\" data-end=\"3047\" \/>The parents are the big ones. The children are the recipients.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"3088\" data-end=\"3215\">When these principles are confused, something in love shrinks.<br data-start=\"3133\" data-end=\"3136\" \/>It starts to flow in the opposite direction: from small to large. From the child to the parent. From the partner to the mother&#8217;s place.<\/p><p data-start=\"3217\" data-end=\"3293\">And when we restore order, the connection breathes.<br data-start=\"3254\" data-end=\"3257\" \/>The body relaxes.<br data-start=\"3267\" data-end=\"3270\" \/>No need to fight for a place.<\/p><h3 data-start=\"3300\" data-end=\"3358\">Between the personal story and the relationship differentiation as a basis for intimacy<\/h3><p data-start=\"3360\" data-end=\"3464\">In the work of differentiation, we ask not only &#8220;who does this belong to?&#8221; but also:<br data-start=\"3417\" data-end=\"3420\" \/><strong data-start=\"3420\" data-end=\"3464\">\u201cWhat happens between us when I act out of identification?\u201d<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"3466\" data-end=\"3558\">Distinction is the ability to feel &#8211; without being dragged.<br data-start=\"3504\" data-end=\"3507\" \/>To express &#8211; without projecting.<br data-start=\"3526\" data-end=\"3529\" \/>To stay in touch &#8211; without being swallowed by it.<\/p><p data-start=\"3560\" data-end=\"3692\">And when that happens, there is a possibility for true intimacy.<br data-start=\"3601\" data-end=\"3604\" \/>One that recognizes the pain, without turning it into the basis of the relationship.<br data-start=\"3650\" data-end=\"3653\" \/>One that allows closeness &#8211; without losing the self.<\/p><p data-start=\"3694\" data-end=\"3776\">This is not separation.
